The Denizens Collective (previously The Denizens Theater Company) was originally formed in 2017 by Stephanie Ariniello and Lara Smith to deliver damn good stories featuring faces you don’t often see—untraditional casting, accessible works, and imaginative spaces.

Today, The Denizens Collective fights for a more compassionate New York City where the familiar cacophony coalesces into a celebration of all its citizens. In this city, every audacious human who shapes our home is heard, and previously silenced voices echo in the streets, inviting dialogue and inspiring change. Our stories dare neighbors to join us in building better, kinder boroughs where we collaborate instead of dismiss, champion instead of blame, and share instead of hoard, creating an NYC that would make Elmo very proud.

Our renewed focus is on original pieces from fresh voices—previous performances include The Motherfucker With the Hat, Marisol, and Savage in Limbo.
